1. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Why they ask: They are listening for self-awareness, not for a rehearsed humblebrag.
How to answer: One strength with proof. One real weakness plus the specific system you use to manage it. Never say 'I work too hard'.
2. Why do you want to leave your current job?
Why they ask: The most common place candidates talk themselves out of an offer.
How to answer: Keep it forward-looking — scope, learning, domain. Never criticise your manager, team or company, even if invited to.
3. What is your current and expected CTC?
Why they ask: Everything about your offer is decided in this 30 seconds.
How to answer: State your current fixed accurately, give a researched range for expected, and ask about the band for the role before committing to a number.
4. What is your notice period, and can you join earlier?
Why they ask: Joining dates decide which of two shortlisted candidates gets the offer.
How to answer: Give the contractual period, mention buyout if your company allows it, and never promise a date you cannot hold.
5. Do you have any questions for us?
Why they ask: Saying 'no' reads as low interest and is remembered.
How to answer: Ask two: what success looks like in the first 90 days, and how the team is structured. Skip leave policy in the first round.
