Common questions
How is notice period buyout calculated in India?
Most Indian companies recover the shortfall days at your basic salary divided by 30, multiplied by the number of days you fail to serve. Some employers use gross salary instead of basic, which makes the recovery much higher — check your appointment letter for the exact clause.
Can unused paid leave reduce my notice period?
Many employers allow accumulated earned leave to be adjusted against notice, though it is usually at the manager's discretion and some companies refuse. This calculator lets you apply your leave balance first, then shows the buyout only on the remaining days.
Can a company force me to serve a 90-day notice period?
A notice period is a contractual term. Employers can insist on it or on a buyout, and can withhold relieving letters if you abandon it. In practice most early exits are negotiated — a clean handover plan and an offered buyout is the fastest route to approval.
Will my new employer pay my notice buyout?
Many Indian companies, especially in IT and services, reimburse notice buyout when they need you to join early. Ask during the offer stage and get it in writing in the offer letter, usually as a joining bonus with a clawback clause.
How this estimate works
We count calendar days from your resignation date, apply your unused leave against the shortfall where your employer allows it, and price the remaining days at salary ÷ 30.
Policies differ by company and your appointment letter always wins. This is guidance for a conversation with HR, not legal advice.
