Interview skill is a performance skill. You improve by rehearsing under conditions close to the real thing and getting specific feedback — not by reading lists of common questions.
Day 1 — Build the question bank from the job post
Every responsibility in a job description is a question waiting to happen. 'Own the release process' becomes 'Walk me through a release you owned end to end.' Generate 15 to 20 questions across three buckets: behavioural, role-specific and company-specific.
Day 2 — Write six STAR stories, not thirty answers
Most behavioural questions are answered by a small set of strong stories. Write six: a hard problem you solved, a conflict, a failure, a leadership moment, a data-driven decision and a project you are proud of. Each in STAR form — Situation, Task, Action, Result — with the result quantified.
One well-rehearsed story, reframed for the question asked, beats a memorised answer to a question they never ask.
Days 3 to 5 — Practise out loud and get scored
- Answer out loud, timed to 90 seconds, without reading your notes.
- Score each answer on structure, specificity and relevance to the role.
- Fix one weakness per session rather than re-recording everything.
- Record yourself at least once — filler words and pacing are invisible until you hear them.
This is where AI earns its place: it will ask the question, listen to a full answer, and tell you exactly which part was vague, which claim lacked a result, and where you drifted off the question — instantly, as often as you want.
Day 6 — Research the company properly
Know their product, their customers, their recent announcements, and the two most likely challenges facing the team you would join. Bring three questions that only someone who did that homework could ask.
Day 7 — Rehearse the opening and the close
- Your 'tell me about yourself' answer: 60 seconds, ending on why this role.
- Your salary answer: a researched range, delivered calmly.
- Your closing question and your thank-you note draft.
